Hitler Not a Socialist

Reader comment on item: The Paterson 'Protocols'
in response to reader comment: the historical mistake thinking the nazis were not socialist, the principle of "Gleichschaltung"

Submitted by HenryJ (United States), Feb 25, 2010 at 10:08

The crux of socialism is egalitarianism, the effort to ensure that people are equal, or to even force them into equality. Communism is socialism at the point of a gun. Eglitarianism was not even in the Nazi vocabulary. Yes, there were similarites in the methods used by the communists and the nazis, but their beliefs were totally opposite. For instance, while management is eliminated under communism, the industrialists flourished under Nazism...and outside of the economic sphere, the nazi ideas of extreme nationalism, fanatical patriotism, chauvinism, racism, etc., are almost always associated with the far rightwing.
