Hitler a member of the "extreme right"?

Reader comment on item: The Paterson 'Protocols'

Submitted by Mark from Missouri (United States), Nov 5, 2002 at 15:30

Thank you for the article. The two "hottest" selling books in the Islamic world, next to the Koran (Q'uran), are the "Protocols" and "Mein Kampf". However, my concern and comment about this article has to do with a "fact" that I have seen misstated so many times.

Adolf Hitler has been termed a "rightest", "extreme right-wing", "conservative", etc. When in fact Hitler was a radical, left-wing national socialist. The Nazi party was the "National Socialist Workers' Party". His disagreement with the Socialists of the USSR was what brand of socialism and who should rule the world. Hitler preferred a Germanic socialistic world order instead of a Russian socialist world order.

Also, Hitler's ally during WWII, Il Duce (Mussolini), though he ruled over "Fascist Itlay", proudly proclaimed one time, that he was a "socialist" in response to a question asking him to define fascism. So fascism is a left-wing movement and not a philosophy of the right.
