Hitler and the Right

Reader comment on item: The Paterson 'Protocols'
in response to reader comment: Please define what you are calling 'Right Wing"

Submitted by Adam (United Kingdom), Dec 22, 2011 at 07:26

My reference was to the extreme right which were, and are, racists. I was contrasting Hitler (a right-winger) with the extreme left like Stalin or Mao. They had fundamentally different visions for their societies.

Moderate, democratic right- and left-wingers are politically closer to each other. They have different emphases, so conservatives are not definitively racists, unlike Nazis. Rather they tend to say that governments should not intervene to create racial equality. That to me isn't racism. Moderate left-wingers believe government should help equal opportunities but that doesn't make them Maoists, wanting to reduce all differences by a sword or a pen.
