It is my take, based on years of study of Islam, Muhammad et al, that 'the prophet' did exist, that Allah was the polytheist god of the 'Satanic verses'. I also believe that Muhammad had some psychological and psychiatric issues which were the basis of much that he did and said.

Islam is mostly political and about how to treat non-Muslims, a point quickly picked up on and exploited and 'morphed' by his successors. There have consequently evolved a number of personas/images of their prophet that are liable to confusion - what is that in the Qur'an, that claims 'Allah'/the mind of Muhammad? to be the 'greatest/best of deceivers'?

The Abrahamic take on 'the greatest of deceivers' is that it is Satan, and that God is about TRUTH.
