It's all about Respect, not Friendship

Reader comment on item: Friendless in the Middle East

Submitted by Dave (United States), Nov 8, 2011 at 12:33

The only way to deal with The Fear Cult is to be firm in asserting our interests. We need to make clear that we look to the Middle East for oil, a strategic commodity which we will not hesitate to procure by force if necessary; that we have value-based alliances with countries like Israel, South Sudan and Cyprus and that we neither like nor practise Islamic law.

People are attracted to power ideologies out of insecurity. We have to be make clear that messing with us invites greater insecurity.
