Beware the Russians in the Mideast

Reader comment on item: Israel's Strategic Incompetence in Gaza

Israel is indeed lost, and so is American influence in the Middle East, after the disastrous policies of the Bush years and with the disasters -- yet to come -- of the Obama years.

Mahmoud Abbas wrote his PhD in Moscow under the former Russian foreign intelligence (SVR) chief Yevgeniy Primakov. Abbas's old boss, Yasser Arafat, was an employee of the KGB, which dreamt up the "Palestinian people".

From the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

The Russian leadership consistently supports Mahmoud Abbas as the leader of the entire Palestinian people and provides practical support to him in the most diverse fields. This primarily concerns strengthening Palestine's law enforcement and security bodies so they are maximally able to maintain law and order. We are also ready to encourage investment cooperation by our companies with Palestine. There are specific plans in this regard that will be discussed in the Kremlin today. We highly appreciate the consistent adherence of Abbas and the entire Palestinian leadership to the peace process that was begun in Annapolis and which we are certain will be continued in Moscow next year. We also support Abbas's line, despite all provocations, on continuing to pursue Palestinian unity. We hope that Egypt's mediation efforts will be continued and have the support of all Palestinians.

Hamas is a protegee of Russia also.

According to PLO politbureau chief Farouq al-Qaddoumi, Fatah and Hamas are strategically the same.

Along with all this meddling, we see the "return" of former Russian Imperial territory (the Sergei Compound) in Jerusalem to the FSB, the massive growth in Israel of the Red mafia, and the strong current possibility of the sale of Israeli drones to the Russian General Staff --which helped to produce the PLO terror in the first place and prepared Saddam Hussein's army for the American invasion, as well as moving Iraqi WMD abroad. The Ba'athists are planning a final push back to power in Iraq.
