Reader comment on item: [The Issue of Compulsion in Religion:] Islam is What Its Followers Make of It

Hi! I know its over a year since you posted this, but I only just stumbled on it.
There are a whole lot of religions that co exist peacefully with the Hindus in India, who form the majority of the population here. There are Sihkhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, etc etc. but when it comes to Muslims and Hindus there is always some discord and its always politically motivated...

The major trouble started when the Congress party (which was responsible for our independence from the British Raj) decided to divide the country into India and Pakistan for political gains. The Hindus formed the majority community in India and the Muslims in Pakistan. ..
It was a blood bath that really caused the trouble. Well, since the holocaust all the political parties have exploited this enemity to gain votes during elections. Winning a war against India is sure to give the Pakistani government a free ticket back into power, and India ia not blameless in this regard either. Recent events like the massacare in Gujrath, where thousands of Muslims were killed, only add to the tension. But dont go by all you hear or read in the media. The media is very biased, leaning towards the minority faith in India. Many times, acts of violence against Hindus dont get reported, and if its the other party thats the cuprit, it gets magnified.

The common Muslim and Hindu in the country dont really want to fight each other. Though the holocaust and being a minority community have created some insecurity in the minds of the average Muslim.
I have loads of Muslim friends all over the country, and I can assure you that their religion does not teach violence, but somewhere down the line they are being manipulated. So its sad to hear that someone that educated could be this mistaken in thinking that Hinduism is intolerant. If it were, the Moghuls would never have ruled India for as many centuries.
