Reader comment on item: [The Issue of Compulsion in Religion:] Islam is What Its Followers Make of It
in response to reader comment: Inquisition - Arab Apology Demanded?

Like medieval Christians, many Muslims (not all) are warriors for some other world (the afterlife) and the God they believe waits for them with good things. Both Christians and Muslims believe they have a monopoly on truth and morality. As if morality and God are one and the same. The Greeks were writing works on morals while the religious communities of the ancient world were busy making laws. They believe their laws (supposedly given them by God) -- are the same thing as morals. Many modern people are so ignorant than they cannot distinguish or understand the various differences as well as some shared goals of religion and simple human morality. God (who for some reason had to speak to or through Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, Joseph Smith and others) has nothing against violence toward those outside the various faiths.

Thou shalt not Kill only applied to other "Israelites" in the days before Christ. And should have been translated "thou shalt not Murder" since God (supposedly) ordered the slaughter of many peoples in the Christian Old Testament. Now it is time for Muslims to wage "holy" war against Jews and any other "infidels"

In my opinion it is disgusting -- sickening, but nothing new. Unfortunately the most radical of Muslims, who wish to kill others by killing themselves and otherwise, are still living in the 14th century. We did not have atom bombs, nuclear bombs and other weapons of mass pain and suffering in the Middle Ages. Now we do . . . and the mentality of some power hungry religious people would not be against destroying the world that they think God created.
