Reader comment on item: [The Issue of Compulsion in Religion:] Islam is What Its Followers Make of It

Submitted by Renata (United States), Nov 29, 2004 at 08:25

The two types of verses in the Quran that Issa Botros refers to, "The first one when Muhammad was weak. The second one when Muhammad had followers and became stronger then he began to kill Jews and Christians in the Arabic Penunsula!! ... " is an example of Islamic abrogation. The second verse nullifies the first.

Abrogation contrasts sharply with our Lord's admontion: "But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil." Matthew 5:37 The choice is clear: follow the Prophet Muhammad's situational ethics or the moral absolutes of Jesus Christ who is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Matthew 7:13-14
