in response to reader comment: Buddhism - An antidote for Hinduism

Submitted by Addiyan (United States), Jan 2, 2017 at 01:13

I find your assertions misguided at best. You write of Hinduism stealing the concept of Ahimsa while missing the Buddha's theft of karma and reincarnation. While different schools of Hinduism have ascetic and hedonistic practices, so does Buddhism. Remember the tantric Buddhist schools or the strict Therevada traditions. Furthermore, to call early Hinduism satanic is not only uncouth and insulting, it is an entirely ignorant and uneducated statement. The history of all native Indian religions is rich with culture and change. The Buddha and Mahavira expanded upon an existing set of spiritual base concepts; much in the way Jesus of Nazareth expanded Judaism to create Christianity.

That Hindus have a wide variety of holy scriptures is a beautiful form of Hindu thought and spiritual evolution. Buddhism too, has many scriptures, and here again I will question whether you've truly done thorough research on these great faiths. Your critique of Hinduism, while containing a few valid points, is clearly a biased attack on the third largest religion on the planet.

I must urge you to do actual, real scholarly research on both Hinduism and Buddhism before you make such a bold and unprofessional statement.
