False Hope

Reader comment on item: [The Issue of Compulsion in Religion:] Islam is What Its Followers Make of It

Submitted by Tom Clear (United States), Sep 28, 2004 at 14:30

I am writing this in response to Daniel Pipes' article titled "What It's Followers Make of It."

Mr Pipes and so many others continue to hold on to some form of hope that more "rational or humanistic" Muslims will change or sway the more extreme element from dominating the Muslim agenda. But this is just a false hope.

We must try to understand everything from the perspective of a believer...someone who feels he or she must follow the Divine. With the Divine it is a matter of right or wrong: truth or falsehood. In otherwords, what is God telling us to do...not how we as humans can make the world a better place. A secular spin does not take this belief into account. One must get into the mind and heart of people who believe they are in touch with God.

The Q'uran is obvious in what Muslims are commanded to do. Let's not promote false hope in thinking that more rational or humanistic Muslims will rule the day. It will not happen.
