Idol Worship mis interpreted

in response to reader comment: Islam V Hinduism

Dear friend ,

I agree that Upanishad says element worship is wrong. But Idol is not worshipped for its elements, that is wood or clay. Idol is given an imagination of The Almighty. Similar to when we write some Physics formula, and say Voltage and assign a symbol "V" and write some formula say V= ir . V is just a symbol. We could have used some other symbol to picturize its properties. Say croosed O etc, or something just for convention. So that when evr we see it we remind of the power of ,not the symbol ,but of that which the symbol points to. So if i take one god Hanuman. It speaks of a character of goodness. that is powerful but humble. so everytime you see hanuman , you will be reminded of the goodness of humble power. the Idols are tool to worship the almighty and not the element of the idol. Hope the approach of "idol for worship" and NOT "idol worship" will satisfy you.

Thanks

Saurav
