cosmic string bags

Reader comment on item: Musing on History
in response to reader comment: Patching up the universe -- eventually, we need to scrap it and buy a new one.

"I think it's telling, that President Obama is unable to deal with the situation in the Middle East, "

Pity that, because in he's partially responsible for it by omitting to act a few years ago and letting it devolve into its present state - in Iraq/Syria at least. Putin is as blameworthy though - and in some ways shares a greater responsibility

"but all the while he presumes that he can eradicate climate change. Even if he could do this, I dare say he cannot stabilize the expansion of the universe. "

He can appear to - and that's all that counts (for many)

""If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State."" - J.Goebbels.

"This world we live in, is something like a car. We can keep on fixing it; but eventually there comes a time when we need to have it towed to the wrecking yard and buy a new one"

Good analogy

Reminds me of "

Things just seem to fall apart,
String bags full of oranges
And things within the heart;

Calamities evaporate and memories depart.
People laugh at anything
And things just fall apart."

- Micheal Leunig
