in response to reader comment: The driver of the driver

"My wife and I often communicate with animals on our property, particularly the hummingbirds, cats and deer. The hummingbird flies to my window and looks in, when something is amiss with its feeder; and once, on a cold day after I had brought its feeder in to warm it up and taken it out again, it flew to the window again in what I could only figure out was a "thank you" gesture. The deer, likewise, allow us to get quite close to them. We greet them and they greet us: We speak to them, and they respond. Frankly, I enjoy my conversations with them over many I've had with people..."

Yes - if you stop, slow down and observe them - they're not 'just animals' - birds and mammals have their own individualities and as you know many wild creatures quickly tame and seem to appreciate human kindness. We have many native animals where I live. The most raucous are flocks of sulphur crested cockatoos. A pair of large birds landed in the backyard a few weeks afgo and walked around about 3m away from me. It really struck home what an alien intelligence they were. You can see in their eyes that they are thinking things in their own unique way. But of course there are no words going around in their little minds. It would be interesting just for a second to experience what they experience.

While on that subject, recent press from Isis territory shows they are plumbing new depths in depravity and barbarity - and proving to the world that calling them animals sullies the reputation of all non-human creatures. These beings have such evil minds and act unafraid of consequences no doubt because they actually believe the more pain and terror they inflict , the more brownie points they're getting from allah. What really surprises me is that if ever there was a time for Nato to go into another country and rout an enemy quickly and definitively, taking no prisoners - this is it. Isis practices pure evil on helpless people in ways that would have turned the stomachs of all but the sickest Nazis. Yet Obama has virtually admitted he has no real plan. Due no doubt to political expediencies.

Since the air campaign against Isis started 6 months ago there have been approximately 1 bombs dropped a day. Yet in the war on (Orthodox) Serbia in the 90's - Clinton managed an average of 220 bomb strikes per day. This level of inaction seems criminal and must be frustrating many people. Just what will it take to get serious I wonder.
