Reader comment on item: Musing on History
in response to reader comment: Ego Romanus es?

Hi, Moh Waz

It's actually "Romanus sum" I took four years of Latin, but looked it up, just in case.

"...searched to the extent of taking off socks and shoes and pass through a metal detector."

That's normal procedure in the US, even for strictly domestic flights, and for entering many public buildings. I resent it as draconian; but it's not our fault that most of the world wants to see us dead. It's the price of being #1.

Time to head for the hills if things ever really got that bad

...as in, "The Hills are alive with the sound of music"?

I hate how muslims just throw their arms into the air and say it's all allah's will. I hope you're not saying something similar.

The Serenity Prayer:

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.

That's what I advocate. In Saudi Arabia, being baptized carries a death sentence. In Oregon, one can be baptized in champagne into, say, the "Church of Absolute Nonesense" and buy legal marijuanna for the celebration. Muslims and Christians do not live and move on a level playing field with Westerners.
