"

John 1:
[1] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

That seems simple enough. John says that the word of God (Torah) did not come before God, or after God: It is an inherent part of God, expressing His nature.

You're not saying that the 'Word of God' is a book are you? I completely disagree if so. The 'Word' is the primordial 'energy' (for want of a better term) behind creation.

1John.1
[5] This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

This is true. This "light" is infinite consciousness/love etc.

"If this is saying that God doesn't have some hidden agenda for shining, that He simply shines, then I agree..."

Also true. The Light can do nothing else. Darkness is just absence of light. In 'spiritual ' terms it's just a lack of awareness of this primeval source in the awareness. Permanent lack of awareness of it certainly would be hell.

"The Buddhist god may be a "sea of tranquility"; but mine is more like a lightning storm. I fail to see any connection."

A sea of tranquility but tremendously energetic at the same time.
