in response to reader comment: The Muslim World vs the Christian World -- scientific contributions

"Note that it says the "empty" space isn't really empty: virtual particles exist in it. "

It actually says 'in a vacuum'. A vacuum is where no matter exists. So 'virtua' paarticles popping into 'reality' - essentially from nothing , is

"..Inventors have been trying for centuries, to patent devices that promise "something from nothing". .."

Perpetual motion is sort of a red herring to me in this case. I'm talking about something arising from nothing - not tapping in to free energy. But if you are talking about it - you might be talking about machines which harvest energy from 'zero point energy' - which as you say has not been practically demonstrated - except maybe in the Casimir effect.

"Mankind, collectively, is not the sharpest blade in the drawer: We are... ahem... ignorant."

Absolutely. Ignorance is a condition of the mind drowning in the 'illusion' of the world and not knowing the truth behind its source. There are multiple levels of ignorance of course. Some very subtle.

"I just did a brief surf, to see what Muslim apologists say about Islamic science."

'Islamic science' - that's such an amusing term. Mohammed seems to have had his intellectual and emotional development stfled from his early teens onward.. Right up there in the firsts of islamic science is the recommendation from none other than mo himself to drink camel piss to ward off infections. Another is this:

Narrated Abu Huraira: "Allah's Apostle said, "If a fly falls in the vessel of any of you, let him dip all of it (into the vessel) and then throw it away, for in one of its wings there is a disease and in the other there is healing "

Despite that its consequences are so serious and so devastating - many islamic ridiculous teachings are so funny. And even funnier are the attempts by current day islamofascists to try and justify their absurd claims in the face of empirical evidence that it is all bunk.

Right , Christianity was mostly invitation only - whereas islam was by conscription.
