Simpler possible explanationsReader comment on item: Conservative Professors, an Endangered Species Submitted by John Philips (Japan), Apr 12, 2005 at 18:20 Actually, Juan Cole points out that conservative professors get funded to set up think tanks. However, it is a fact that people with advanced degrees (presumably including all those MBAs out there) vote Democrat, and most states have laws requiring professors to have advanced degrees. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate. For complete regulations, see the "Guidelines for Reader Comments". Daniel Pipes replies: an explanation worthy of Juan Cole. In response, I note that:-- all think tanks combined cost less per year than any small college; -- think tanks have proliferated in recent years in large part because conservative scholars were excluded from the academy; -- think tanks have in large part replaced universities as sources of policy advice because they have accountability.
