Reader comment on item: Conservative Professors, an Endangered Species

Submitted by Rob James (United States), Apr 12, 2005 at 21:58

I agree with Theodore Kemper that it is primarily because Conservatives have gone off campus. Another factor could be the painful truth that, generally speaking, Liberals care more about education.than the Right, and would be more prone to take up teaching positions.

As far as Religion in the public sector is concerned, it is not because of the notion of Anti-Science paranoia - Evangelical colleges and seminaries teach intelligent design, not traditional creationism. I think it is because Evangelicalism has its own league of colleges and seminaries. It is no secret, then, that Liberals take up the religious portion in public sector. This being the case, it is a bit deceptive to say that the left controls the religious sector of education.

The reason why Evangelicals attend likeminded schools is obvious. Liberal theology is ridden with ideological philosophy. Often times when a Liberal comes across a passage which conflicts with his viewpoints, he ponders whether or not exegesis is a viable means to interpret it. This is why we see so many articles taking the dogmatic position that Islam as a religion of peace, since they see interpretation as a completely relative science. Absolutely no weight is given to Suras and Hadiths which teach the opposite.
