Conservative Professors? Where?

Reader comment on item: Conservative Professors, an Endangered Species

Submitted by Dr. Anthony R. Ruffino (United States), Apr 12, 2005 at 15:45

Regarding your article on the Endangered Species of conservative professors, I not only agree but I wish to add some further comments. This is certainly not a new phenomenon. I attended Brooklyn College from 1952 to 1956. The far-left bias among the faculty then was known to all. Even the students, most of whom were leftists, referred to the school as " The Little RED Schoolhouse. My career ended as Associate Professor at New York University, at which I was faculty from 1979 to 1998. I was amazed to find that NYU surpassed even Brooklyn College in the degree to which conservatism was treated as if it were a disease.

I sent my son to Harvard Law School after training him to be open minded but basically conservative. He returned after being afloat in a sea of leftism as a youthful and left liberal. Quite a potent force, this left wing academia with which we are afflicted.

It might take eons, but the recent conservative "swing" in America may right the ship a bit. I sure hope so.
