A real horror storyReader comment on item: Conservative Professors, an Endangered Species Submitted by Carey E. Stronach, Ph.D. (United States), Apr 12, 2005 at 17:48 One of the very worst examples of the persecution of a conservative professor is the example of Dr. Jean R. Cobbs, formerly tenured full professor of sociology and social work at Virginia State University. After a ten-year siege, the VSU administration fired her, for taking what they called excessive (but unpaid) leave of absence while her husband was dying of stomach cancer. The real reason for her firing is clearly the fact that she is a conservative Republican, and she did not support L. Douglas Wilder (a close associate of the president of the university) when he ran for governor.Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
