because they're well educatedReader comment on item: Conservative Professors, an Endangered Species Submitted by brian johnston (United States), Nov 10, 2008 at 03:53 Many studies in the political science subfield of political behavior have shown education to have a liberalizing effect on students. Some attribute this to a predominance of liberal professors, while others argue that college exposes students to new groups and ideas which result in a more open view of the world. A look at polling surveys helps to offer some explanations too. An overwhelming majority of those with post graduate degrees tend to support liberal candidates. The more one learns, the more likely they are to become liberal. It's not a coincidence that the highly educated are more often liberal. They have a broader view of the world and the political sophistication to see the danger of conservatism. Simply put, the reason most professors are liberal is because they are well educated. If you disagree with this, odds are you aren't well educated. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
