Academics put off by GOP pandering to religious superstitionReader comment on item: Conservative Professors, an Endangered Species Submitted by Steven Abrams (United States), Apr 12, 2005 at 20:28 Mr. Pipes -While I'm an admirer and supporter of your polemics on the Mid East, I get miffed by some of your right-leaning views in other areas, such as this idea you've put forward that conservatives face virulent discrimination in academia. One reason that there are so few Republican, conservative or Evangelical Christian professors at universities may be (as Paul Krugman wrote in his New York Times column of 4/5/05) that theocratic, anti-science views hold sway for many in the GOP's base. As Krugman put it: "Today's Republican Party - increasingly dominated by people who believe truth should be determined by revelation, not research - doesn't respect science, or scholarship in general. It shouldn't be surprising that scholars have returned the favor by losing respect for the Republican Party" Steve Abrams rotundist@yahoo.com Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
