Reader comment on item: Conservative Professors, an Endangered Species

Follow the links to the article. All disciplines are covered in the article.

The only places where the bias was not overwhelming was Nursing, Economics, Business, and a couple Engineering areas. But even in those areas, the numbers still reflect a significant tilt left compared to the country as a whole. And more insidiously the higher the status of the institution the more left-leaning the faculty in even sciences and business.

I am a new Ph.D. in business. I know it sounds gutless, but I will try to hide my political leanings until tenure. I did well after the November election--all day long I kept telling myself "My dog just died" to maintain the look of all of the faculty.

In a seminar on management, a Russian fellow student has made a couple flattering statements about the leadership of Ronald Reagan. The class, which respectfully listens to strange theories of cultural and gender biases in every session and would claim to be open to all cultural differences, openly laughs each time.

I don't know if I will be able to hide the fact that I am an "enemy agent" for 7 years. I am in a business school: my heart goes out to anyone in the other departments.
