Confessions and last words of a muslim

Reader comment on item: Reflections on the Revolution in France*

I stated my opinions about İslam, about terror, about headscarf, about so called Armenian genocide, about USA, EU and nothing left except repeating myself. I assure you that I dont hate western cultures or christianity. Some comments here were really informative for me.

We live in the border of islam and christianity. We Turks dont belong to the western culture but also we dont see ourselves as a complete middle easterners either, though we are more inclined to the east than to the west. We had deep relationships with both cultures. We even ruled some parts of both for hundreds of years.İt is a disadvantage that we cant integrate with neither cultures. But on the other hand we can understand both sides. And neither side is too foreigner to us. We are also the only muslim country who sincerely dont hate jews. Even our race is a mixture of east and west and few mongolian.

You must not be offended that I just dont believe that USA is an angel who spends millions of dollars just for the happiness of oversees people.I believe USA is only working for itself and has no respect for any other country and misinforming its own people to keep the American miracle alive for ever. And we need another challenging super power. But I never, ever said that you people are evils or so.

On the other hand we must honestly accept that the west in many ways are far in front of us. We have to learn to work and live according to western values. We must have respect to all cultures including our minorities which includes Kurds. We must let Christians build churches and make all kinds of propaganda about christianity in the middle of our cities just like we do in their cities. We have to admit that we ruled many lands for centuries but we did nothing in positive science .Our success was only militarily but nothing else.We even didnt have a written press in the year 1900.

İt is extremely important for us that the EU supports us for overcoming our backwardness in many points (corruptions, economically and human rights). And such a change will be extremely difficult for us, but we can do it. We dont want to send more workers to EU we even dont want much money from EU. İt is not important for us to join to EU or not. İt is important for us to overcome our problems and become the first real civilised muslim country in the world. We have no oil, no natural resources, but we have an ambitious and hard working youth.

But the attitude of America,mr Bush and last rebels in France, continuing terrorist attacks in the world and EU leaders like Merkel and Sarkozy unfortunately are taking the world into the clashes of civilations. Then which side we will go? Probably to nowhere..

And also about islam. Maybe I am wrong, maybe we are rather different believers, maybe too tolerant, maybe I am underestimating the power of islamofachists, maybe there really is a bigger islamofachist movement around the world ,who knows. İt still is more reasonable to think that mr bush is promoting islamic hate. I only can know my country. We also have many muslims who wont think and just pray in Arabic which they wont understand anything and just follow islam in a traditional shape without inside feelings. But beeing a terrorist is something very exceptional. I mean, not too many people walking around wanting to blow himself up to go to heven (actually to hell) to the beautiful girls. I met none like this.

There is no power in this world which can take my faith from me.I also think that while we learn to live in a more tolerant and civilised world we must never lose our good habits like family ties and close human relationships and Turkish pride.

I want to thank one more time to Mr pipes very much for editing my (according to most of you I guess, rather strange ) world view here.
