Cresent Moon is Rising

Reader comment on item: Reflections on the Revolution in France*

On the morning of Nov 9, I read the 97 posts on Dr. Pipes' website, 98 if I include Dr. Pipes article. I believe, that the most important and revealing post was authored by "Mu'een Ud Deen", titled, "Reply to Michael Green". While I have the greatest respect for Dr. Pipes' analysis, I must admit that I'm not always in agreement. The significant difference is that Dr. Pipes identifies two arms of Islam, that is "Moderate Islam" and "Radical Islam". I on the other hand believe that there is only one Islam, and the difference is how overtly Muslims practice or reveal their beliefs.

Thus, it is my view that an interesting insight into Islam can be found in Mu'een Ud Deen's post. And I quote, "I am a Muslim and regret to inform you that 'Islamic violence' is non-existent". In spite of irrefutable evidence and a well documented litany of Islamic atrocities, Mu'een Ud Deen is not at all reticent in denying that it exists. From Mu'een Ud Deen's post, it is evident that he is well educated, literate, and very much aware of events occurring in the world. Yet in the face of irrefutable evidence he declares that Islamic violence is non-existent.

What is even more frightening is that undoubtedly there are more than a billion Muslims who would echo his words. Isn't there something frightening about such a blatant denial of the truth and isn't it reminiscent of the Jewish holocaust denial, by Nazis, by Muslims and by fringe lunatics? Mu'een Ud Deen also made the following statement:"secondly, the Muslim's have an international community known as the Ummah, a society of brotherhood, therefore if some of the Ummah is being wrongly accused, or attacked - what do you think the other Muslim's will do? (Sit and Watch!)". Doesn't that sound some what sinister, like a threat or intimidation? Ah yes, the cresent moon is rising, indeed.
