I'm getting way off topic here but you're definitely right. The Austrian accent is definitely more animated and musical and colourful than your vanilla flavoured German you'd hear in Hamburg for example. I think they pronounce their vowels more distinctly and somehow put a 'bounce' n their speech. I think if Inspector Rex was filmed in Berlin rather than Vienna it would lose some of its appeal! :- )
