Iran vs. Turkey

Reader comment on item: Islamist Turkey vs. Secular Iran?

Submitted by Ralph C Whaley MD (United States), Nov 30, 2010 at 09:17

The real battle is between those mortal enemies, faith and reason. Man's nature requires that he survive by using his mind to identify what his life requires, producing it and consuming it for his own benefit. Reason is man's only means of knowledge and his means of survival. When living in society with other humans his ultimate requirement is freedom to think and act in his own interest, free of the initiation of force by other humans.

The essence of religion is faith, belief in the absence of evidence. The mind operates on the evidence perceived by man's senses processed by his faculty of reason. Faith is anti-reason, anti-mind, anti-human life. Faith and force are inseprerable. A religious government is incompatible with political freedom and doomed to fail. Only Capitalism, the political system that institutionalizes the principle of individual rights to life, liberty, property and the pursuit of happiness by banning the intitation of force, is compatible with life as a human being in any society.

A rational government, an essential for men living in society, requires total separation of religion and the government.
