Susan: just a reminder. The ottoman empire kicked out the christians from albania, that found shelter in italy around 1500. See? how islam was friendly and peaceful even back then?
It is history that there were enough christians in majority in Greece when Ottoman empire left Greece after 4-5 centuries of rule. Still christians are majority in Greece.
It is history that Muslims rule in Spain left enough christians in Spain who were enough in numbers to kill muslims themselves in case they were not ready to convert to catholicism or to export them into America through Columbus.
It is history that there were more than 40 percent of Christians in Turkey in the 1914 even after Muslims ruled Turkey for more than 5 centuries. Those christians left Turkey just to have more comfortable life in Europe. Muslims were not responsible for that.
Muslims left enough Hindus in India after their domination of 1000 years. Still Hindus are majority in Indian subcontinent (India, Pakisthan and Bangladesh combined). In the whole world Hindus were number 2 after christians after the decline of muslims domination in India.
There is no history to say that any Muslim military invaded western saharan Africa or Indonesia. But still those regions are Muslim majority areas in the world.
When this was the case in the whole world, there is no reason to believe your statement.
So it is better for the west not to repeat the same worn-out slogan - Islam spread thru sword. Islam did not have any Constantine of Christianity or Ashoka of Buddhism to be promotoed.
But still I accept that few extremist rulers were there when Muslims dominated politically in the Middle Ages.
