Reader comment on item: Salvaging the Iraq War

Submitted by Bos (United Kingdom), Jul 26, 2007 at 07:23

Mr Pipes,

anything would be better than ignominious retreat, but this plan actually sounds like a genuinely plausible solution. It would force the Iraqi forces to take control, allowing coalition troops to quickly crush hotspots of insurgent control and withdraw. this would leave armchair resistance/insurgency apologists to justify the continued murder of iraqi innocents without the pretence that it is simply the nature of an Amrican created conflict Zone (and many would) or to finally throw their left wing or muslim support where it should have been all along, behind the ordinary iraqi people who simply want employment, security, public amenities and freedom.

If the insurgents attack in the desert, coalition forces will destroy them with next to no coalition casualties, and that is something the American public would quickly get back behind.

I recently saw a website asking visitors to e-mail politicians informing them of a report on the war death toll (a totally discreditted report) and demand a withdrawal. you should offer visitors to this site a simple opportunity to inform coallition politicians and mainstream media of their desire to have this concept fully explored and considered.
