A creative new solution to solve the Iraq problem.Reader comment on item: Salvaging the Iraq War Submitted by Haim Belisowski (United States), Jul 25, 2007 at 14:10 Iraq was created by the British and French after WWI. Three competing ethnic groups were placed together against their will in a classic 'divide and rule' strategy. The best solution now is to divide Iraq to its three largest groups; the Sunni Shiite and Kurd. Let the Sunnis and Shiites have their war but the Kurds need to be protected. So I would modify Dr. Pipes' solution and redeploy the American soldiers to Kurdistan. This would protect the only emerging democracy in the area (Kurdistan) and give the Amricans a base to keep an eye on Iran and Syria. As for the Sunnis and Shiites, having a clearly defined border between them would greatly reduce the civilian casualties, and eventually their war would end in a stalemate.
