What a Mess!Reader comment on item: Salvaging the Iraq War Submitted by Blackspeare (United States), Jul 25, 2007 at 13:47 It is said that people who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it! Mesopotamia is composed of a population lacking any historical patriotic ideal, rife with religious absurdities, connected by no common tie, prone to listen to evil, disposed to anarchy, and always ready to rise against any government whatsoever. Otherwise securing a peaceful population under a representative government in Iraq is a piece of cake. It is obvious the US will not fully withdraw from Iraq any time soon and leave a power vacuum for others to fill. It is also obvious that the only way Iraq can establish a stable nation is through the use of "military/police" powers to keep sectarian skirmishes to a controllable number. In other words, the US will overseer a government not unlike those it supported in Central and South America.
