Reader comment on item: Salvaging the Iraq War

Mr. Pipes,

I would humbly suggest that you review history and data over the past four years. I think you'll find that Bush won all the battles, and lost the war. How did Bush loose the war....very simple...his victory objectives were never achieved, as opposed to the Iraqi insurgents victory objectives which were achieved, and continue to be achieved each day...denying the Americans their victory objective.

Our position in Iraq now is unsalvagable, granted your idea has merit, but it's window of implementation was two years ago, now...now the only thing left for us to salvage is our military and we cannot rebuild a military that is constantly stressed to meet the demands of a two nation occupation. It is over for us, and to continue in this folly only invites the inevitable irrepairable damage to our military and our economy.

The decision is simple, a basic decision really, what is more important to us, our national health, or continuing a failed occupation that will slow bleed us till we leave because we have nothing else to throw into the grinder?
