Re: "Salvaging the Iraq War"Reader comment on item: Salvaging the Iraq War Submitted by Brad (United States), Jul 28, 2007 at 15:35 Re: "Salvaging the Iraq War" What we now see and experience in our failed occupation of Iraq, makes me believe that Saddam Hussein had to deal with the same internal religious and sectarian divide. Thus, he used extremely harsh measures to control three diverse and antagonistic religious sectarian populations. You are aware, of course, that many of the most costly and long lasting wars of history have been religion-based. All our attempts to democratize Iraq have failed and will continue to fail because of the religious factionalism and infighting of the Shia, Sunni and Kurd populations. Of the three religious groups, the Kurds seem to be the most reasonable and capable of self-rule. But they have been marginalized by the Shia and Sunni. Iraqis will continue to kill each other until a new Saddam Hussein comes to power and splits Irac into a Federation of three States: Kurd, Sunni and Shia, with bimding agreements on the distribution of the Oil Revenues..
