in response to reader comment: American arrogance and other observations.

I see this side of the coin in which you flipped from, but what you don't realize is, Americans don't care about the rest of the world's view on us, in general. Why would I say that? Just look at how many immigrants strive and starve themselves silly, just to get a glimpse of America. We know as a nation how great we really have it..We don't want it tarnished by jealousy.

We are arrogant, because we fight for freedom and in no way do we tolerate being told how we should conduct our everyday lives in our own backyard, by imitating what works for the rest of the world. Who cares if some people don't know which side of the ocean Africa is on, some citizens have no need in American's society to know this, in order to function and produce a lifestyle that get's them by. We are a nation built around dreams, not necessarily books alone. We can make a living by just begging on the nearest street corner and probably could make more money than most middle class people do in those third world countries by doing so.

What is America? Home to the rest of the world! We Are the World. Arrogance is embodied in all of us, just look in the mirror, as you stand in your own home. It how it's applied that makes the difference. We have helped more nations than any other country and many combined. We are proud of this accomplishment and we will raise our glasses in order to salute it. We have low test scores in school, we have social problems on the streets, but yet we have the highest rate of fulfilled dreams the world over. So, next time you take a look at America, look deep and never judge by our Gov't alone or how stupid you may see us, we just may surprise you with a dose of Compassion, Love, humor and most of all Pride...Many countries see it as a weakness and would never help a stranger....
