Standing Up for America

Reader comment on item: Europeans: From Venus?

Submitted by Zero (United States), Aug 28, 2007 at 23:28

Many Europeans (not all) have stated certain things such as "All Americans are ignorant fat people". It's comments like these that make the European look extremely ignorant. Being so close minded so as to generalize an entire comment based off of what could possibly be only a handful of Americans they've seen or met is downright ignorant.

People say "Americans are fat". While this is a problem in our society, it's blown completely out of proportion by the media, and some people are led to believe that all Americans are obese, which is completely untrue. Honestly, as an American citizen, I can say that there are, in actuallity, not that many obese Americans. There have been polls that show many Americans having above-average BMI. BMI measures body mass in a person, and a muscular person in great shape tends to have a higher BMI than an overweight person (to some extent).

Some people act like the whole war in Iraq is the entire populations fault. If you go on Americans streets and interview citizens at random on their thoughts on the war, roughly 9 out of 10 people ypu ask will say that they're against it They'd tell you that we've already done all that we can, and we should just pull out. We're not brutes who think that the world revolves us. Some of us just have thoughts of a free world. And at least some of us are trying to make a difference

Many Europeans say that we don't know anything outside of our land. Again, this is not true. While they are saying we don't know anything outside of their homeland, they sound like they don't know too much about ours. In fact, I read an article in my newspaper somewhat recently about European schools. It said that Many schools in Europe aren't teaching about the Revolutionary War and how Europe lost America. From the sounds of it, once again, you're only making fools out of yourselves by not teaching out of your homeland, and also not taking the loss of America with pride. Instead you act like it never happened.

Seriously, some of you Europeans (not all, some are very nice people), need to get your facts straight before you make a total idiot out of yourself.
