Dear Dr. Pipes,
While I generally agree with your comments on the differences between American and European approaches to international relations, I think perhaps too much credit is given to Europe for integrating Germany into a peaceful European state system. I place much more significance on the fact that Germany was split in two by the U.S. and Soviets during the Cold War period and was not in much of a position to threaten anyone. Furthermore, overall peace in Western Europe was both accomplished by the U.S. in WWII and then guaranteed by the U.S. in the Cold War. Europeans can talk as much as they want to about their moral superiority to the U.S. but the fact is that it is because of the security provided by the "militaristic" U.S. that they are able to spend all their money on social programs today.
