Reader comment on item: Europeans: From Venus?

A story that i heard during secondary school History class, it goes something like this...

During the coming together of the German and British forces during WWI on Christmas eve, an observation was made by a British officer. The officer read (in German) an inscription made by a German upon his friend's makeshift head stone, it said 'Died for fatherland and freedom' and below that 'God's warrior.' The British officer was stunned by this, and asked the German soldier what he was talking about- he (the allies) were fighting for freedom and God was with them. They argued, the German stating otherwise until finally 'my British COMRADE said, 'let us not argue on Christmas'.

My point is, we all have the view that we are the forces of good! Nobody sets out to be evil 'well the masses at any rate' but were manipulated in various ways, ALL of us. Does evil really NEED to exist? Does America NEED an enemy to survive?
