To Dr. Pipes: Don't slander the secularists

Reader comment on item: Europe's Stark Options

Submitted by G.Vishvas (Germany), Mar 25, 2007 at 08:16

Dr. Pipes writes:

"An extreme secularism predominates in Europe, especially among its elites, to the point that believing Christians (such as George W. Bush) are seen as mentally unbalanced and unfit for public office."

Secularists don't think Bush is unfit for holding public office because he happens to be a christian.

Can you think of other reasons why it is so?

Extreme secularism does not exist, just as there is no extreme mathematics or extreme physics. Secularism has its minimum demands and requirements and if they are undercrossed then various religious conflicts will start dominating public life.

Especially in out fight against islamic totalitarianism and deceit we must take care not to go the baptist "god-talks-to-me" way. The Bush man is indeed either unbalanced or stubborn in his arrogance and dimwit.

Daniel Pipes replies:

By extreme secularism I mean a secularism that tries to crush religion.
