Reader comment on item: Europe's Stark Options
in response to reader comment: loss of Europe's religious faith is not the problem

"Pristine Islam of the 7th century"... are you nuts?? Islam was born an... inhuman religion, it was not corrupted. Muahmmed was a murderer, opportunist, terrorist and thief. This is the "Pristine" Islam you are talking about?

As for "Militant and intolerant" Christianity, Jesus was never militant or intolerant. The church may have been , but not the teachings of Jesus Himself. As for the "Enlightenment", the notion of equality, egalitarianism, and brotherhood, justice for all, the primacy of the individual and the freedoms itemized in the US Constitution are all derived fron the Judeo-Christian ethos. The denial of Christianity as a force for good in the world is intellectually dishonest. ...

What new idea did Muhammed introduce ? Was he looking for monothesim, it was here already, salvation, forgivness of sins, love? None of these, he was looking for submission and subjugation. As a result, we have the unhappy history of the most intolerant belief system on earth, ant the distinct possibility of a neo dark age.
