Your analysis is very good and accurate, but there is a historical precedent: the collapse of the hindu civilization in the 12th century, following the same causes as you have portrayed: an elite alienated from its own culture and beliefs, acceptance of islam thinking that it wont be any different from the indigenous faiths and a probable decline in population. india of those days was divided into many states, just like the europe of today; there was a nominal emperor who could not do anything; the elite were familiar with the teachings of islam, there were muslim settlers in large numbers; the elite probably thought, like the chinese mandarin, that the invaders would be 'assimilated', just as the leftists of europe are fondly hoping today. what followed was nearly six hundred years of cultural wars, oppression, destruction and another three hundred years of riots, still continuing, the creation of the first 'faith based' 'modern' islamic state of pakistan.
