Barbarians at the Gate (Where there are now NO GATES!) = Great Potential for Change! (Not Good Change!)

Reader comment on item: Europe's Stark Options

Dr. Pipes -- You mention this point, "Ironically, in centuries past, as the historian Norman Daniel has documented, Christian Europeans looked down at Muslims with their multiple wives and harems as overly-sexualized, and on this basis Europeans felt morally superior."

If Europe dismisses its own monogamous tradition, and opens itself to polygamy before the Muslim population reaches 10%, then the likely outcome will be a higher fertility rate in Europe among its indigenous population, and a out-pacing the Muslim birthrate, thereby maintaining an indigenous European/secular/Christian majority for the continent into the 22nd Century -- barring any mass-exodus from Africa and the Mahgreb.

As for Ralph Peters optimistic scenarios, Europe has become too passive, feeble and brainwashed to accept the threat to its civilization as a reality. It will only be when the barbarians are at the gate -- and Roman historians, please note, no part of Europe is protected by any kind of "gate" anymore -- that they will awaken to the collapse not only of their civilization and traditions, but to their hard fought rights and liberties for themselves and sons and daughters, but for FREEDOM in general.
