Reader comment on item: Islam vs. Islamism (article)
in response to reader comment: Must we really be making excuses for Islam?

""The solution is not violence against Muslims or 'nuking Mecca' as you put it, for violence will beget even more retaliation from the Muslims."

The problem is Jaladhi's reply implies exactly that. You can go to sites (mainly on The Right) including this one and see this message.

" However it is neither by appeasing and making excuses for their religion, which is even worse because it proves to them that we are intimidated by their threats"

I have absolutely no disagreement with that at all. Their are huge major problems with Isalm. They (Muslims) know this, and they will work it out, it is what the war inside islam is all about. So they will A. figure out how to live in the modern world s it is (with all its faults) or B. Islam will quite simply and for all practical purposes....go away. The only question is when this will happen, and how many people will die (see the 30 years war 1/4 of the German population died because of that little...misunderstanding)

The thing is, I see 2 competing narratives on this

Mainly on the Right....(the cliff notes version) Islam is at war with us, so we have to destroy Islam. Mainly on the Left (the cliff notes version) There's no problem with Isalm, oh sure there are a couple of people who want to fight us, but they don't really matter, and besides it's probably...certainly our fault. as we (the West) are Imperialists and war mongers and racists.

Both of these views are wrong, because they are simplistic.
