Several polls have shown that a plurality of Moslems support the radicals

Reader comment on item: Islam vs. Islamism (article)

It would be comforting if it was true that 10-15% of Moslems support the radicals (whatever label), but polls have consistently shown that a majority of Moslems support the goals of the radicals and represent the "silent, but critical infrastructure support".

More precisely, 10-15% support radical means to achieve Moslem goals. The goals are clearly stated in Moslem theology. The moderates do not represent traditional Moslem thought, but a Reformation movement.

How one deals with the demographics of radicalism is the critical question which will determine the survival of Western Civilization. The answer to that question is not likely to come from the current administration whose vocabulary does not include such words as "Terrorists, Islamists, radicals, etc."

I proffer that not until the problem is accurately defined will there be any chance to seek a solution.

There are many levers which still can be pulled. For example, a major institution, Bank Ing was found by the US Treasury Dept Report to be arranging the financing of Iranian centrifuges. To date I have never heard of any sanctions taken by the US government.

We have a long way to go.

Daniel Pipes replies:

The great majority of Muslims at least sometimes support the Islamists. Only a very small proportion - I would estimate 1-2 percent - actively fight the Islamist movement.
