Reader comment on item: Islam vs. Islamism (article)

Submitted by Doug Mayfield (United States), May 13, 2013 at 15:21

"Islamists loathe the West because of its being tantamount to Christendom, the historic archenemy, and its vast influence over Muslims."

Not being knowledgeable in religious studies, I can't comment. But based on what we see in Islamic countries and communities around the world, I think Islamists' hatred of the West goes a lot deeper than a quarrel with Christendom. As demonstrated in daily in Egypt, Mali, Nigeria, the Islamic areas in major European cities, Islam demands of its followers that they murder or enslave not just Christians but anyone who disagrees with them.

The West, especially America and Israel, where freedom and individual rights are respected, represents a threat to Islam's goal of world domination. In my view, Islam and its followers will not rest until the West is destroyed or we in the West identify Islam as the mortal threat it is to our future and deal with it.
