the Nazi paradox remains stunning

in response to reader comment: It is just a Double Paradox

Submitted by myth (Germany), May 17, 2013 at 16:45

Morcos, the Nazi paradox became quite real in May 1945. From one day to the next these people gave the perfect impression there had never been Nazis in the first place. The Nazis burned books in the 30s, burned people in the 40s, and burned their SS-uniforms overnight in May 1945. They did tattoo camp prisoners with numbers. They never tattooed their party membership numbers in their own arms. They loved Hitler while they were Nazis, they never hated him when he was finished. He was just declared the sole culpable, a part of history to be forgotten in a haze of pragmatism. From makers of tanks to makers of cars, from conquerors of Europe to tourists. Precisely one experience produced this sudden change of heart: defeat.
