Edward, thanks for your response.

Whether 'Christianity' stood by or was silently complicit in the atrocities you list is still not the same as being the ones perpetrating the atrocities. Being an accessory to murder is indeed a crime, but being a murderer has a greater punishment. Further, I would argue that it is more important to examine and deal with the present rather than look to the past, regardless of what our views are, and not to minimize them at all. There is a current threat to innocent people worldwide from masses of Islamic extremists functioning with group-think. The argument that other religions 'did it too' hundreds of years ago does not solve the problem, just diverts.

Whether Christianity has in fact moderated or not is less important since the impact on lives is relatively negligible. The same can not be said for Islam, and that is the bottom line.
