Peaceful military conquest?

Reader comment on item: Islam vs. Islamism (article)

'Muslims achieved remarkable military, economic, and cultural success between roughly 600 and 1200 c.e.'

How did the military success come for 'Muslims' - you don't say Arabs or Turks or Persians, Dr. Pipes!! And you are neglecting the Muslim invasions and imperialist behavior from Arab, Persian and Mongol invaders shown in Indian history..

Your analysis further looks at 'Islamists' focusing on the West's 'Christendom' for their recent suffering. Again you ignore what's happening in the subcontinent

Not very convincing... much as I would like to comfort myself that Islam could be practiced peacefully if one follows Muhammad's example. Muhammad the 'plain Muslim' would today be called Islamist

However, pragmatically, focusing on 'Islamism' and emasculating Islam by removing Sharia and militant Jihad could help give 'cultural' Muslims a door to honorably escape being ostracised and swimming against the social tide - that is, escape the fate of Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Taslima Nasreen and Wafa Sultan

Your argument appears to be an attempt to reform Islam through the 'back door' of dividing the ranks, being an outsider to the religion
