Dear Octavio- My intentions

Reader comment on item: Civil War in Iraq?

Submitted by Bader S (United Arab Emirates), Mar 7, 2006 at 18:10

Terrorist acts carried out by militant Muslims are horrible, sadistic, shameful, evil, and a dark stain on a billion Muslim. That is my opinion.

I have not in any of my posts defended any act of violence perpetrated by these Muslim militants. Again, I consider these acts despicable.

And yes the acts of terrorism that we witness yearly are on a scale never seen before.

My participation in this forum is not to defend militant Islam but rather to try and lessen the dehumanization of average Muslims by Islamophobes. If people are angered by my rebuttals then that is their problem. When proved wrong I will admit to my errors and ignorance.

There has been no period in history that was not tainted by blood and conflict. So if we are to begin judging history let us judge it objectively, wholly, and impartially.

I do not get offended when Islam is being criticised or scrutinized. What offends me is the falsification of established facts using inflamatory words, especially when a historical fact is altered with what I perceive to be malicious intent . I respect the opinions of others, even if I do not actually agree with the opinions . I may challenge those opinions, as is the nature of debate, but I will not attack the person because he/she has expressed an opinion.

I hope I have cleared up my intentions.
