Let`s not forget what got all this started. The Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and threat to do the same to Saudi Arabia is what brought the US to the area to start with. Saudi Arabia being one of our sources of oil (and supposed ally), it was in the interest of the US that SA didn`t fall into Sadam`s hands. To say we just attacked an arbrtrary helpless target to force our ways on is a bit over the top.
